Serve

We believe that serving is an outward extension of Jesus’ love and example: “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…” Matthew 20:28a. There are many areas you can serve with New Hope – from Sunday morning services, to community projects. We are always looking for eager volunteers of any age to build up the church and deploy for Christ!

In Our Church

Top 5 Volunteer Opportunities

1) Extended Teaching Care (ETC)/Preschool Power Hour - this is Sunday morning childcare for infants through 4 years of age. Parents of children that utilize ETC are asked to volunteer once a month for volunteer rotation. If you are not a parent, but wish to volunteer, please contact Debbie Bailey at debbieb@discovernewhope.com.

2) Sunday Morning Greeters – we need greeters who volunteer on rotation to meet and greet guests on Sunday mornings. If you are interested in serving in this way, please contact Angie Rollmann at arollmann@earthlink.net.

3) Parking Lot Attendants – we need adults to help direct traffic and vehicles in finding vacant parking spaces. If you are interested in serving in this way, please contact Angie Rollmann at arollmann@earthlink.net.

4) Hope Group Teachers – we are always in need of college students and adults to teach a Hope Group. Volunteers for these teaching positions should feel called to teaching, and be committed to invest time into preparing lessons and praying for their class members. If feel called to serve in this way, please contact Johnny Sorrell at johns@discovernewhope.com.

5) Special Events – we are always needing extra hands for special events at New Hope. Our two biggest events that we need help with are Vacation Bible School (June each year) and Fall Fun Fest (October 31 every year). If you are interested in helping out with these or other special events throughout the year, please contact Nichole Sims at nicholes@discovernewhope.com.

In Our Community

Food Pantry

The New Hope Food Pantry assists people in the name of Jesus by providing food and other resources to meet their basic needs. Visitors receive bags of food, information, and volunteers take time to pray with visitors over any specific needs or requests they may have. The Food Pantry is open Mondays 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and Thursdays 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. These are the days we need volunteers; if you are interested in serving in this way, please contact Patsy Roberts at 528-1993.

Hope for the Homeless

Hope for the Homeless is a project in which basic nourishment and health supplies (such as water, food, socks, toothbrush/paste, and seasonal items) are collected and placed in individual bags, along with a Gospel tract. These bags are passed out to church members to give to any homeless citizens they may come in contact with. We collect and assemble bags approximately 4 times a year. If you are interested in helping in this project, please contact Amy Shipman at shipmanhouse@yahoo.com.

“Ready for School” Project

As a way to help out the local and community neighbors with the upcoming school year, New Hope holds a school supply, backpack, and jeans drive. As parents and children come to get physical needs met, they also receive snacks, children’s salvation tracts & other resources, and prayer with volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering to help with this annual event, please contact Johnny Sorrell at johns@discovernewhope.com.

New Hope Manor

Members of New Hope visit New Hope Manor Nursing Home and direct Bible studies and hymn singing. Most residents at New Hope Manor are unable to leave, and this weekly Sunday event is their only access to worship and learning. If you are interested in helping, please contact Lester Garner at grangarner@aol.com.

Beyond Our Community

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is a mission project of Samaritan’s Purse that New Hope participates in each November. Church members collect boy/girl and age specific gift items in a shoe box (hygiene items, small gifts, candy, socks, etc.). After collection, a Gospel New Testament is included in these shoe boxes, and the boxes are shipped overseas for impoverished children. You and your family can participate by filling a shoe box! Shoe boxes can be sent throughout the year directly through Samaritan’s Purse. New Hope does a specific collection in November. For more information, contact Johnny Sorrell at johns@discovernewhope.com.

Write-Way Prison Ministry

New Hope actively participates in the Write-Way Prison Ministry, which provides free Bible correspondence courses to prisoners in Texas and Louisiana. Mission engagement activities include: main office data entry; printing forms, envelopes, cards, etc.; trading exams; counseling exams; and shipping exams. If you are interested in serving in this ministry, please contact Beverly Koob at kkoob@austin.rr.com.
