SESSION 2
IDENTITY CRISIS: UNDERSTANDING A MISSIONARY GOD & MISSIONARY CHURCH
INTRODUCTION
Not only is there a cultural crisis in the West, but there is also an identity crisis, one of how we see God and with how we see the church. If we desire to faithfully live out God’s call on our lives, we should understand and recognize that God and His church are intrinsically missionary in nature. Who we are and what we do as the church is derived from the very nature of a sending, missionary God, who in turn compels us to live as a sent missionary people.

REFLECTION
- Utilizing both curriculum videos, as well as the Identifying Your Sentness tool, discern and name your place of sentness/context. How might you describe this context? How might you describe your current relationship with this context (outsider, insider, peer, coworker, colleague, leader, foreigner, etc.)? How might the people in your context define their relationship with you?
ACTION
- This week, engage one person from your place of sentness/context. Take a relational step toward this individual or couple or family. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. Examples of engagement could be: introducing yourself, apologizing to someone for not yet knowing them, sharing a meal with someone, doing something kind for someone, asking more about someone’s story, etc. Remember the point is friendship. Do the next step in building a mutual friendship.
